About Central Sierra Historical Society & Museum

The Central Sierra Historical Society & Museum is a non-profit museum located in beautiful Shaver Lake. Our museum is open 7 days a week from 11 am - 3 pm from Memorial Day through Labor Day. We open Friday - Sunday from September 8th - December 10th and then we close from December 11th through May, our opening dates depend on snow. Our museum tells the natural and cultural history of this amazing region, from rock formations and geology, the Mono Indians to Hydroelectric power. We have fully operational exhibits that we run monthly throughout the summer including our steam donkey and Redinger hydroelectric powerhouse. We offer monthly "Hike for History" where docents lead groups to historic points of interest in the area and also a lecture series called Sierra Voices. We also have monthly concerts in our beautiful amphitheater from May through August. You can follow us on Facebook at and on Instagram at
