About This Event

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.” Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea. Enjoy this CenterStage production with a live full orchestra!

About This Event

Dave Koz and Friends Summer Horns Tour Featuring Gerald Albright, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot and Introducing Aubrey Logan

In a career that spans more than three decades, saxophonist Dave Koz has racked up an astoundingly impressive array of honors and achievements: nine GRAMMY® nominations, nine No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Current Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, numerous world tours, playing for multiple presidents, a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and more. A platinum-selling artist, Koz is also known as a humanitarian, entrepreneur, radio host, instrumental music advocate and restaurateur.

Now, Dave Koz has released one of the most exciting recordings of his long career. Five years after recording their initial tribute to the great horn sections of soul, jazz and pop, Dave Koz and Friends’ Summer Horns II From A To Z reprises the all-star, crowd-pleasing format of that smash hit outing. The album features Koz on soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxes—along with alto saxophonist Gerald Albright, tenor saxophonist Richard Elliot, Rick Braun (trumpet) and Aubrey Logan (trombone and vocals), plus guest vocalists Jonathan Butler, Kenny Lattimore and Sheléa—putting their own spin on classics by Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Michael Jackson, Natalie Cole, Earth, Wind & Fire and more. Plus a guest spot from Gloria Estefan on an inspired recreation of her classic “Conga.”

Summer Horns II From A To Z takes the original concept further by changing up the lineup and tossing in some unexpected surprises, including a medley that miraculously blends a Duke Ellington swing classic with a more contemporary hit by hip-hop star Jay-Z. The album includes arrangements by Greg Adams (Tower of Power), Tom Scott (Michael Jackson, Steely Dan) and Gordon Goodwin. “We looked at this as a completely new project because it was different personnel,” says Koz. “We said, if we want to do another version of Summer Horns, we can absolutely change the concept and get a little more adventurous-the music deserves it.”

Dan Pessano Theater
2770 E. International Ave. Fresno, CA 93730

About This Event

When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes. Music by Jeanine Tesori. Book & lyrics by Lisa Kron.

About This Event

Maria Muldaur is best known world-wide for her 1974 mega-hit “Midnight at the Oasis,” which received several Grammy nominations, and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers everywhere; but despite her considerable pop music success, her 50-year career could best be described a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music.

In the 40 years since “Midnight at the Oasis,” Maria has toured extensively worldwide and has recorded 40 solo albums covering all kinds of American Roots Music, including Gospel, R&B, Jazz and Big Band (not to mention several award-winning children’s albums), before settling comfortably into her favorite idiom, the Blues, in recent years. Often joining forces with some of the top names in the business, Maria has recorded and produced on-average an album per year, several of which have been nominated for Grammy and other awards.

In 2013, taking a brief hiatus from her yearly recording schedule, Maria focused on 3 special collaborations, performing worldwide with her old Jug Band mates, in a series of 50th Anniversary Kweskin Jug Band Reunion concerts, teaming up with the Campbell Brothers, world-renowned Sacred Steel Gospel artists, for a very special presentation entitled, “Spirit & The Blues”, touring as Special Guest Artist with Bill Wyman and The Rhythm Kings. as well as continuing to perform with her own Red Hot Bluesiana Band.

Maria Muldaur continues to tour regularly worldwide.

This popular event offers a NY steak or chicken BBQ dinner al fresco at the station with live music. Then take your seat on the Logger Steam Train for an excursion narrated by the conductor. DiCicco's Old Town Clovis
408 Clovis Avenue Clovis, CA 93612

About This Event

Every Friday Old Town Clovis Rocks For FREE.. At the Lounge In DiCicco's This week High energy Jazz/Blues/Rock with Crowd Favorite, Richie Blue Get your Dancing Shoes on and get there early. Great Food, Great Drinks Great Music Every Friday at DiCicco's Do not miss this Show Recent inductee into"The Blues Hall of Fame"Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Richie Blue's blistering guitar playing and heart and soul vocals have taken him to his current status as one of the top drawing acts on the club and festival circuit all over California, the northwestern states, Canada, and Mexico. His brand of music although rooted in the blues, is a blend of rock-a-billy, country swing, New Orleans swamp, and soul. Born and raised in Washington State, Richie won his first talent show contest in 1969 and went on to play in succesful 1970s northwest bands such as The Nashband and Greasewood before moving to San Francisco in 1980. His stint with The Fabulous Beaumont Brothers featuring Amos Garett brought attention to Richie's Twangin Blues and slide playing. Soon he was gigging the San Jose, San Francisco and Sacremento club and festival circuit with just about everyone in sight — some big names, others not so big — but always adding his tasteful, graceful, unpredictable and amazing guitar playing! Richie began performing with his own band in 1994 and has released three CDs on the San Francisco Farmboy label. His original song "Rooster" has been performed by the band Zero, Norton Buffalo, Stu Blank, The Sonoma Swampdogs and other Bay Area blues bands! With production help from Norton Buffalo and Steve Miller, Richie recorded and shopped his song "Run Through The Night" with favorable notices! Wherever Richie performs, the place is jumpin' and he has lived up to his buisness card slogan "No Bar Too Far". Richie has been a guest guitarist on 30+ albums and CDs! The following is a list of a few notable artists Richie has performed, toured and or recorded with: Amos Garrett, Steve Warner, Doug Kershaw, Roy Clark, Little Anthony, The Drifters, Fabian, Elvin Bishop, Norton Buffalo, Steve Miller, B.B. King, Little Milton, Johnny Copeland, Buddy Miles, Terry Hanck, Johhny V, Tommy Tu Tone, Bobby Voltage and Doyle Bramhall 2

River Camp, hosted by the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust, provides a fun and safe place for campers of all ages to spend time at the river exploring, playing, making friends and learning about nature. The San Joaquin River is one of the most beautiful and important natural resources in our area-our water source, home to fish and wildlife, and some of our last undeveloped open space. At River Camp, children have the opportunity to experience this treasure right in their own backyard. For over 20 years, the River Parkway Trust has been offering an exciting, fun, and safe experience for the Valley’s children at River Camp. Our lively and experienced staff of counselors, lifeguards, visiting scientists, and artists will engage your children in activities that enhance their understanding of, and connection to, the San Joaquin River. Campers enjoy swimming and splashing in cool water, learning to canoe, exploring wildlife habitat, playing games, creating arts and crafts, and building new friendships during their week-long day-camp experience. A River Camp 2018 T-shirt is included in the cost of registration. Space is limited. Please sign up early to ensure you get your first choice week. River Camp is held at Scout Island, a beautiful 85-acre outdoor education facility owned by the Fresno County Office of Education. The River Parkway Trust is proud to partner with the FCOE in bringing local environmental education to the children in our community.

Each summer we are thrilled to see the familiar faces of our camp counselors and returning campers. Most of our camp staff moved through the ranks from campers to Junior Leaders to counselors. They have incredible experience and knowledge of the River Camp setting. We also have a very high camper return rate, which fosters positive relationships between campers and the camp staff.

Ages: Entering 1st through 8th grade

Time: Camper check-in takes place each day from 8:15-8:45 am at the River Center (11605 Old Friant Rd). All River Campers must ride the River Camp bus to and from Scout Island each day. Campers return to the River Center at approximately 4:15 pm, Monday-Thursday. On Friday the River Camp play is held at the River Center at 3:30 pm; campers may leave with their guardian as soon as the play is finished.

Cost: $230 or $210 for members ($5 discount if paid in full at time of registration)

About This Event

The First Annual Scanlan / Davila Boxing Invitational

A fundraiser to establish and benefit scholarship funds for the children of Toamalama Scanlan and Juanita Davila who were grievously wounded by an armed attacker while on duty at the Fresno County Jail on Saturday, September 3, 2016. The event will feature (number) of the Central Valley's next wave of talented up-and-coming young boxers in all weight divisions. (Awards or titles?)

Presented by The Fresno County Public Safety Association

………………..

WHAT: An amateur boxing card featuring dozens of Valley boxers including fighters from the Fresno County Sheriff's Department

WHY: Because Scanlan and Davila face years of difficult physical and financial challenges from injuries suffered while serving in the line of duty.
Their families gladly share the burden but funding for college seems out of reach without some help. The Fresno County Public Safety Association intends to establish an annual fundraising program to assure that the children will have the opportunity to attend college.

– and –

Next October the FCPSA will present the first-ever Fresno Sheriff Department vs. the Fresno Police Department Boxing Event featuring bouts between officers with proceeds to benefit FCPSA activities, which assist local non-profit organizations to improve the lives of women and children in our community.

DiCicco's Old Town Clovis
408 Clovis Avenue Clovis, CA 93612

About This Event

Aaron Weaver started doing stand-up in Chicago in 2008, with a point-of-view so specific, so original, and so hilarious that the rest of the Chicago comedy scene quickly took notice. He rapidly became one of Chicago’s most heralded stand-ups, due to his custom brand of absurd soulfulness and his way of exploring all the smartest and stupidest thoughts that go through all of our heads. He has also performed at the TBS Just For Laughs Festival (twice), as well as the Boston and Bridgetown Comedy Festivals. Since moving to LA in 2013 he was named one of Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch” as well as being named one of Last Comic Standing’s “Top 100 Comedians,” and finally he was just named one of LA’s Rising Stars by The Culture Trip. Aaron’s positive stage persona is a breath of fresh air, particularly if you like breathing things that are really, really funny.

About This Event

This joke slinging rabble-rouser has been delighting audiences across the west coast for over five years with his tales of life, love, and all that other crap that fills our days. His comedy career began as just another way for the long time theater nerd to get his stage fix, but he soon found that stand-up was his greatest passion and only actual skill. Clay is a regular host at Punchline and Cobb's in San Francisco, as well as Rooster T Feathers in Sunnyvale. He won Comedy Oakland's Tournament of Champions in 2015 and made it to the finals in 2017. Clay also found his way to the finals of the 2016 Ventura Harbor Comedy Competition, as well as the 2017 Rooster T Feathers Competition. He has also hosted the roasts of Dustin Diamond in San Francisco, and opened for Nick Thune and Bryan Kellen in Ventura, Ca. This joke slinging rabble-rouser has been delighting audiences across the west coast for over five years with his tales of life, love, and all that other crap that fills our days. Clay is a regular host at Punchline and Cobb's in San Francisco, as well as Rooster T Feathers in Sunnyvale. He won Comedy Oakland's Tournament of Champions in 2015 and made it to the finals in 2017. About This Event

Phil Johnson is a man who gets mistaken for a woman but only by that not paying attention. That revelation kicks off a battle for self-awareness where comedy and music are the weapons of choice. It's a battle that has taken Phil to such esteemed festivals as the Edinburgh Fringe and Sundance Film Festivals and the Top 8 Finals of the World Series of Comedy. "I've always been the guy who isn't quite what people expect," says Phil. Using that experience, Phil pokes holes in the medical marijuana argument, discusses being a white guy at a hip-hop show (and the innocent gestures that can get him in trouble), and reveals why Hawaii isn't the paradise we think it is. From Shakespearean bees to redneck vampires to anthropomorphic cell phones with weight issues, Phil Johnson fills the stage with quirky characters that combine social satire with absurdist flights of fancy. Then the guitar comes out and kicks the show into an even higher gear with songs about the bright future (and dark past) of babies and what he would do if he woke up one morning as an actual woman. On stage, Phil's playful humor and likable, endearing manner allow him to shake things up without antagonizing the audience. In the end, we can only be who we are, try to understand others, and hope they understand us. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/slice-of-comedy-headlining-phil-johnson-tickets-43910471402

All results from certified, timed 5K races will funnel up into a national leaderboard to determine and reward the overall fastest runners and age groupers in the country with some pretty cool cash prizes. And since this is Fleet Feet, and we celebrate and welcome runners of all abilities and levels, we will also recognize runners with some truly unique awards, including:

Common Ground: Finish at the most common finish time for The Big Run, and we’ll enter you into a drawing for something BIG!

Middle of the Pack: We’ll recognize the male and female who finish in the exact middle of all The Big Run results.

Social Butterflies: We’ll thank the two people with the most-engaged social media posts from The Big Run with some pretty sweet prizes.

Curious to check out last year’s event? Search #thebigrun on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to see how our epic coast-to-coast running community celebrated at The Big Run.

Food will be on-site from various food vendors + refreshments!

The Big Run coincides with Global Running Day and is open to runners of all levels and abilities.

Dan Pessano Theater
2770 E. International Ave. Fresno, CA 93730

About This Event

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!  Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

Yolanda del Río (born Yolanda Jaen López on May 27, 1955 in Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo) is a Mexican film actress and ranchera singer. Some of her best-known films are Caminos de Michoacán (1979) and La India blanca (1982).

Born the youngest daughter of 4 children, she was inspired at a young age by famous golden age Ranchera singers Lola Beltrán, Lucha Villa, or Amalia Mendoza played on the radio. Yolanda began voice training at a very early age to become a singer and recorded her first album at the age of 15. With her trademark melancholic wailing style, she would eventually become one of the most prominent Ranchera singers of the 1970s and 1980s. Her songs "Valgame Dios" and "Una Intrusa" ranked on the Billboard Latin charts.
