Come share food, drinks, and live music with a community that stands at the intersection of environmental, social, and criminal justice reform. About Insight Garden: Grounded in the belief that access to nature is a human right, Insight Garden’s evidence-based and nationally recognized program empowers people in prison to become food justice leaders, sustainable agriculture advocates, environmental stewards, urban gardeners, community educators, and racial and criminal justice reform advocates within prison and in the communities to which they return. Join us! - Inspiring Speakers - Food by Tree Of Life Fresno - Beer & Wine Garden - Live Music by The Excursions Band - Silent Auction - And More! We’re supporting people, communities, and society coming together to grow our collective wisdom as sages - rather than building more cages! What we do now together will define the world we create for generations to come. Insight Garden Program intentionally and simultaneously addresses racial inequity, economic disparity, and environmental degradation. About This Event

An NBA legend on the court, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is also a “Renaissance Man” for our time. His most widely admired accomplishments are his six NBA championships and his still unmatched record as the all-time leading NBA scorer.

However, since retiring in 1989, Abdul-Jabbar has moved off the court to become a cultural icon in many fields.  He has acted in movies and television shows. As a television commentator and as a columnist for The Washington Post and Time Magazine, he has spoken out about issues of race and religion in America as well as just compensation for college athletes. His books telling of his basketball career and his relationship with legendary UCLA Coach John Wooden have been best-sellers.  His fictional writing includes the Mycroft Holmes mystery in novel and comic book form.  He also writes young adult novels; his most recent is the inspirational Becoming Kareem: Growing Up On and Off the Court.

Currently Abdul-Jabbar serves as the chairman of his Skyhook Foundation, bringing educational STEM opportunities to students in under-served communities. “In 2012 he was named a Global Cultural Ambassador and in 2016 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Kareem Abdul Jabbar, joins us in conversation to share stories of leadership in his career and his life.

Bon Qui Qui teamed up with Benefit Cosmetics for her third music video “This Is How We Do It”. After the success of her debut album, Bon Qui Qui released a Christmas EP titled “Merry Hoodmas”. All the songs are available on iTunes and the videos are currently on YouTube.
Anjelah has appeared in multiple ads & commercials including campaigns for Sprint, Visa, Snickers, Verizon, All-State, K-Swiss, Dryers Ice Cream and was the spokesperson for a Texas based restaurant chain, Taco Cabana. In June 2009 Anjelah recorded her first one-hour special for Comedy Central and Warner Bros. Records titled, That’s How We Do It. Her second one-hour special, The Homecoming Show, aired on NUVOtv in July of 2013 and is currently available on Netflix. The Tower Theatre Lounge
805 E Olive Ave Fresno, CA 93728

About This Event

Bassist and vocalist, Casey Abrams, will make his Chesky Records debut this Spring with a new album combining electrifying originals and compelling covers. "Robot Lovers" is the first single from this new release, showcasing both the frenetic energy of the band, as well as the unique nature of Abrams' creativity as a songwriter and performer.

All around musical wunderkind, Casey Abrams, has built a strong following through the years building on his public debut on American Idol in 2011. High praise was heaped on him early from fans and judges alike, prompting Randy Jackson to state that "I don't think I've ever seen in my life, on this show definitely, somebody as talented as you are in a musical aspect." Following his stint on the show, Casey released his debut album, Casey Abrams, co-produced by Jackson, which featured the Billboard Holiday 100 single "Baby, It's Cold Outside". In addition to releasing his sophomore effort, Tales From the Gingerbread House, Casey has been a regular contributor to rotating musical collective Postmodern Jukebox, touring with the band internationally.

Part of the Chesky Binaural + Series, all recorded with a single microphone, the band appears right before you with this spacious, lush and multi-dimensional recording. Now headphone users will hear the same three-dimensional sound and imaging as audiophiles have for the past 30 years with Chesky Recordings. Also, these Binaural+ Series albums capture even more spatial realism for the home audiophile market, bringing you one step closer to the actual event. You will hear some of the most natural and pure music ever recorded.

Save Mart Center

About This Event

Corteo, which means cortege in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. The music turns lyrical and playful carrying Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality.

The climactic "mother ship" scene in which the alien creatures reveal themselves looks even more awesome in this 4K digitally restored director's cut.

Classic movies on the big screen on Sundays and Wednesdays

The Sandlot (1993)
This coming-of-age baseball comedy was hailed by critic Roger Ebert as a summertime version of A Christmas Story. New kid in town Scotty Smalls wants to fit in, but there's a problem: he can't play baseball! Before summer is over, he will make new friends, and together they will confront "the Beast" a mysterious dog with a scary reputation. About This Event

In the late 1930s China is in dire straits. The country will collapse under Japan’s military juggernaut if it does not receive outside assistance. Chinese-American firebrand Li Ling-Ai jolts Americans into action with a new medium: the 16mm Kodachrome color film. She hires American photojournalist Rey Scott to travel to China and capture a citizen’s perspective of the war-torn country, including the massive bombing of the wartime capital Chungking (now Chongqing). Their landmark film Kukan is screened by President Roosevelt at the White House, called “awesome” by the New York Times, and receives one of the first Academy Awards for a feature documentary in 1942. Why have we never heard of Li Ling-Ai? And why have all copies of Kukan disappeared? Finding Kukan director Robin Lung turns detective and goes on a seven-year quest to find the answers. 75 minutes. Film website: http://www.nestedeggproductions.com/

Discussant: Robin Lung (Director)

All films screened on campus are free and open to the public. Parking is not enforced after 4 p.m. on Fridays.

After spending most of their lives incarcerated, they are forced to reconcile their perception of themselves with a reality they are unprepared for. They also struggle to overcome their personal demons and reconstruct their fractured lives. Grappling with day-to-day challenges and striving for success, they work to reconnect with their families and provide for themselves for the first time in their adult lives. Told in an unadorned vérité-style, we experience the truth of their heartaches and triumphs. As their stories unfold over weeks, months and years, we witness the precarious nature of freedom after incarceration in America. 73 minutes. Film website: http://www.lifeafterlifemovie.com/

About This Event

Shadow Magic by Chinese director Ann Hu brings us to China at beginning of the 20th century. Suffering both physical cultural invasions by the West the Chinese are suspicious and antagonistic toward anything that the West has to offer. Set against this historical background, Raymond Wallace, an Australian brings yet another Western innovation: the motion picture or what the Chinese literally call “shadow magic.” Wallace wants to make his fortune by establishing the very first motion picture theater in China. Not surprisingly, his efforts are met with both awe and suspicion, especially by the Dowager Empress, and bring forth the following question: can change and tradition coexist? 116 minutes. In English & Mandarin with English subtitles. Film website: http://www.sonyclassics.com/shadowmagic/index.html

About This Event

A young lawyer named Kholoud Al-Faqih walks into the office of Palestine’s Chief Justice and asks to join the bench. He laughs at her. However, a few years later, Kholoud becomes the first female judge to be appointed to the Middle East’s Shari’a (Islamic law) courts. The Judge by director Erika Cohn offers a unique portrait of Judge Kholoud: her brave journey as a lawyer, her tireless fight for justice for women, and her drop-in visits with clients, friends, and family. With unparalleled access to the courts, The Judge presents an unfolding vérité legal drama, with rare insight into both Islamic law and gendered justice. In the process, the film illuminates some of the universal conflicts in the domestic life of Palestine—custody of children, divorce, abuse—while offering an unvarnished look at life for women and Shari’a. 76 minutes. In Arabic and English with English subtitles. Film website: https://www.thejudgefilm.com/

About This Event

Halloween at Hobb’s Grove is exactly what one would hope for when desiring the ultimate haunted Halloween experience. Creepy and mysterious yet frighteningly fun, you know you’ve entered another world from the time you turn down the driveway.
Legions of ghouls celebrate your arrival this Halloween season.

THE PORTAL returns this year, an immersive and interactive laser shooting haunted experience brought to you by our friends from the South. The classic fantastic HAYRIDE into Shadow’s Keep, the eerie trek through the Haunted FOREST and the trip through this year’s Hobb HOUSE of Scary-tales are as frightful as ever.

The Midway at Hobb’s Grove has an old-time feel and features warming fire pits, peddlers and entertainment. About This Event

Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Matt Cole knew since the moment he could talk that he wanted to make people laugh. He realized he had a knack for comedy the same way most comedians do, by getting thrown outta class for being a smart ass at a young age. Fast Forward through a haze of drinking and an early midlife-crisis later, Matt started pursuing Stand-up Comedy in Orange County California in early 2013. Since that time, Matt has become a Brea Improv regular and has performed at The Comedy Store, Flappers Comedy Club, The Ice House, both Irvine and Ontario Improv’s. He can be found nightly with a microphone in hand flooring audiences with true tales at countless other comedy shows in the surrounding areas.

As a feature act Matt has had the opportunity to open for Jeff Garcia, Sam Tripoli, Steve Simeone, Jason Collings, Cory and Chad (The Smash Brothers) and Tom Segura. On the festival circuit Matt has been selected to preform at the Ventrua Harbor Comedy Festival and Devil’s Cup Comedy Festival (NYC). Saturday morning is perfect for those times when Friday night is just way too hot, or if you’ve got a hot date Friday night, or even if you just like to get up early and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Saturday market.

Every Saturday, year-round, you can find the Market at the intersection of Bullard and Pollasky Avenue – in the Old DMV Parking Lot across from the Central Valley Community Bank. It runs from 8 – 11:30 am and includes many of our Friday Night vendors – among them, Shasky Farms, Farmer & The Dale, Smiling Oranges and Top O’ the Morning Dairy.  Please help us support our local farmers by coming out to BOTH Farmers Markets!

About This Event

Every Friday Old Town Clovis Rocks For FREE.. At the Lounge In DiCicco's This week High energy Jazz/Blues/Rock with Crowd Favorite, Richie Blue Get your Dancing Shoes on and get there early. Great Food, Great Drinks Great Music Every Friday at DiCicco's Do not miss this Show Recent inductee into"The Blues Hall of Fame"Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Richie Blue's blistering guitar playing and heart and soul vocals have taken him to his current status as one of the top drawing acts on the club and festival circuit all over California, the northwestern states, Canada, and Mexico. His brand of music although rooted in the blues, is a blend of rock-a-billy, country swing, New Orleans swamp, and soul. Born and raised in Washington State, Richie won his first talent show contest in 1969 and went on to play in succesful 1970s northwest bands such as The Nashband and Greasewood before moving to San Francisco in 1980. His stint with The Fabulous Beaumont Brothers featuring Amos Garett brought attention to Richie's Twangin Blues and slide playing. Soon he was gigging the San Jose, San Francisco and Sacremento club and festival circuit with just about everyone in sight — some big names, others not so big — but always adding his tasteful, graceful, unpredictable and amazing guitar playing! Richie began performing with his own band in 1994 and has released three CDs on the San Francisco Farmboy label. His original song "Rooster" has been performed by the band Zero, Norton Buffalo, Stu Blank, The Sonoma Swampdogs and other Bay Area blues bands! With production help from Norton Buffalo and Steve Miller, Richie recorded and shopped his song "Run Through The Night" with favorable notices! Wherever Richie performs, the place is jumpin' and he has lived up to his buisness card slogan "No Bar Too Far". Richie has been a guest guitarist on 30+ albums and CDs! The following is a list of a few notable artists Richie has performed, toured and or recorded with: Amos Garrett, Steve Warner, Doug Kershaw, Roy Clark, Little Anthony, The Drifters, Fabian, Elvin Bishop, Norton Buffalo, Steve Miller, B.B. King, Little Milton, Johnny Copeland, Buddy Miles, Terry Hanck, Johhny V, Tommy Tu Tone, Bobby Voltage and Doyle Bramhall 2

San Joaquin River Parkway & Conservation Trust
11605 Old Friant Road Fresno, CA 93730

About This Event

River Camp, hosted by the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust, provides a fun and safe place for campers of all ages to spend time at the river exploring, playing, making friends and learning about nature. The San Joaquin River is one of the most beautiful and important natural resources in our area-our water source, home to fish and wildlife, and some of our last undeveloped open space. At River Camp, children have the opportunity to experience this treasure right in their own backyard. For over 20 years, the River Parkway Trust has been offering an exciting, fun, and safe experience for the Valley’s children at River Camp. Our lively and experienced staff of counselors, lifeguards, visiting scientists, and artists will engage your children in activities that enhance their understanding of, and connection to, the San Joaquin River. Campers enjoy swimming and splashing in cool water, learning to canoe, exploring wildlife habitat, playing games, creating arts and crafts, and building new friendships during their week-long day-camp experience. A River Camp 2018 T-shirt is included in the cost of registration. Space is limited. Please sign up early to ensure you get your first choice week. River Camp is held at Scout Island, a beautiful 85-acre outdoor education facility owned by the Fresno County Office of Education. The River Parkway Trust is proud to partner with the FCOE in bringing local environmental education to the children in our community.

Each summer we are thrilled to see the familiar faces of our camp counselors and returning campers. Most of our camp staff moved through the ranks from campers to Junior Leaders to counselors. They have incredible experience and knowledge of the River Camp setting. We also have a very high camper return rate, which fosters positive relationships between campers and the camp staff.

Ages: Entering 1st through 8th grade

Time: Camper check-in takes place each day from 8:15-8:45 am at the River Center (11605 Old Friant Rd). All River Campers must ride the River Camp bus to and from Scout Island each day. Campers return to the River Center at approximately 4:15 pm, Monday-Thursday. On Friday the River Camp play is held at the River Center at 3:30 pm; campers may leave with their guardian as soon as the play is finished.

Cost: $230 or $210 for members ($5 discount if paid in full at time of registration)

About This Event

@indyfromspace is the twitter handle Dr. Sarah Parcak uses to communicate her Indiana Jones inspired passion for archaeology. An Egyptologist, she has pioneered the use of remote sensing from space to expose many previously unknown archeological sites. Her (paradoxically) groundbreaking work has revealed seventeen potentially unknown pyramids as well as more than one thousand tombs and three thousand settlements in Egypt.

Winner of the 2016 one million dollar TED Prize, Parcak’s expressed goal is to find every archeological site on earth and preserve each for future study. She is investing in globalXplorer.org, a citizen science platform for archaeology, to let people around the world help find and protect ancient sites and become partners in her important work preserving and studying the Earth’s cultural past. She is a Professor of Archaeology, a TED Senior Fellow and National Geographic Explorer.
