Shaghoian Concert Hall
2770 E International Ave Fresno, CA 93730
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, was conceived after the Civil War as a day to honor those killed during that way. Flowers and flags were put on each grave. After World War !, the holiday changed to honor any American who died fighting in any war. The wearing of red poppies on Memorial Day became a way to honor those who lost their lives. Although we have lost some of this tradition, we will never stop remembering and honoring all those who gave their lives to make us free. The Fresno Community Concert Band is honored to play this Memorial Day concert each year to remember our fallen heroes, those who fought beside them and those who continue to serve. We are pleased to announce that this concert will feature the world premiere of British composer Dan Price's "Flanders Fields"- a dramatic work with film and narration. Hanna York, soprano, will return to perform with the band singing sever beautiful songs including "I Vow to Thee" and "Soldiers Requiem".
