Danzas de Libertad Art Festival 2016 Presents: Mexican History Dance and Theater In 2011, Danzas de Libertad was created to celebrate Mexican Independence Day in the month of September, and this year the event will be expanded into an Art Festival as well, with the great collaboration and support of Arte Americas and Warnors Center. When the doors open at 6:00pm, our guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a large display of traditional Mexican costumes, researched and hosted by Cecilia Montoya Rios, along with an exhibit of photos and paintings from artists, hosted by James Ramirez. At 7:00 pm we will have a 2 hour show with our stage full of color, dance and music with traditional dances from Mexico, representing our rich history and culture since pre-hispanic times. Danzas de Libertad 2016 guest groups performing: Ballet Folklorico Alta California, Ballet Folklorico y Marimba de Fresno, La Familia Azteca, The Irene Gonzalez Project, Danzantes de Tlaloc, Ballet folklorico de Madera, Los paisanos de Selma, from Salinas CA: Tonatiuh Danzantes Del Quinto Sol, and from Perris CA: Grupo Folklorico Cielito Lindo. In between the traditional dances, we will have dramatic scenes on stage presented by “Contraluz Teatral”, a local Spanish theater group. The show will conclude with the traditional Grito De Independencia by our Consul: David Manuel Preciado Juarez, who will call the names of our Mexican heroes followed by a” Viva Mexico” celebrating the two hundred and six years of freedom. The following day, Sunday September 18th at 4:00 pm at Arte Americas, (located @ 1630 Van Ness Fresno CA), we will have an Author’s reception. Two great books: Nina Perez- reed will present her book “Out Of the Shadows” sharing a brief story of her life, and the motives that help her writing this amazing book. Directly from the state of Zacatecas Mexico, Roberto Galaviz will present his book “Formas De Decir Adios” (Ways to Say Good Bye) a collection of poems of his inspiration, and he will share a brief story of how he got inspire to start writing along with a new project to be release on 2017. There is no cost to attend to this event and our audience will have the opportunity to take a tour inside the museum, enjoying the traditional Dia De Los Muertos altars and art exhibit. Appetizers and refreshments will be available.
